On this day in 1986, Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos fled the Philippine Islands never to return and died just a few years later in 1989 in exile. I visited the islands as a child during Dec of 1973, just a year after martial law was declared in the islands. Martial law would not be lifted until 1981.
