A Southern Girl’s View… All Hallow’s Eve and Spiders

Happy Halloween to all!

For many areas, Halloween (formerly known as All Hallow’s Eve) marks the change in weather, seasons and harvest.   The origins of All Hallow’s Eve are thought to have originated in the times of the ancient Celtics and their festival of Samhain.  Samhain was a festival where people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.   Subsequently, Pope Gregory III designated Nov 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs thus the name of All Saints Day.  All Saints day also used some of the traditions of Samhain. So last night I made cupcakes for my hubby’s employee Halloween party today.   I used regular devil’s food cake mix and dark chocolate frosting with cherry licorice for the legs and editable eyes from the local grocery store.
