Before my pups moved into my house, I lived the single life – no kids, no pets, footloose and fancy free. The pups changed all that and specifically how I travel now. Since 2010, I have traveled extensively with my pups, most of the time with just my Lil’ Lucy. After thousands of miles traveling by automobile, I have come up with a starter list of 5 tips for traveling with your dog. www.dogfriendly.com is also a great resource site.
Tip 1 Look for hotels that accept Pets – La Quinta is my hotel of choice for the chain hotel with the most welcoming pet policy overall
Tip 2 Pre scout for dog parks near the hotels where you are staying
Tip 3 Make sure that your dog is tagged on collar with correct info ~ also microchip your pet
Tip 4 Stop every couple of hours so you dog can pee/poo even if they do not ask
Tip 5 Look for safe approved spots near hotel entrance/exits where you dog can pee/poo – be aware of your surroundings and if you have to go out at night – tell the front desk clerk
