On this day in history, President Andrew Jackson narrowly escapes assassination. Leaving a funeral held in the House chamber of the Capital, an unemployed house painter took out his pistol and fired. The gun misfired and an angry 67 yr old Jackson clubbed the would be assassin with his walking cane. Jackson became the first US President to experience attempted assassination.
